FAQs

Am I a good candidate for this procedure?

Everyone can benefit from IV therapy! Especially those experiencing effects of dehydration or anyone wanting to improve their overall health and well-being.

The body’s immune system is the most magnificent system designed to fend off disease and function effortlessly! It is a miraculous healing machine that has the ability to heal itself if given the proper tools. In a perfect world, free of toxins, clean air, chemical-free food and water, it does function effortlessly. However, in today’s toxic environment, our bodies need some help.

What should I do to prepare for treatment?

The most important things in preparing yourself for IV therapy are to be well-hydrated and well-fed, having eaten about 1-2 hours prior to the therapy. Eating a meal before therapy supports your parasympathetic nervous system, which opens your blood vessels and allows nutrients to reach deeper into tissues. By opening blood vessels, your IV administration experience becomes much easier to tolerate and smoother to set up. If you have poorly accessible veins, you may be asked to do a variety of additional things to prepare such as:

Drink 2 cups water with 1/4 teaspoon sea salt or Himalayan Sea salt the day prior to and the day of the IV therapy. The salt in this mixture allows your body to store a larger amount of water in your blood. As a result, IV therapy works much easier, for both placing the IV as well as the experience during an IV and afterwards. Dehydrated veins tend to become more easily irritated.

Eat a warm meal 1-2 hours before therapy. Eating food activates the “rest and digest” part of your nervous system, opening blood vessels in the skin. This is especially true for warm meals that have a larger amount of water, such as soups, pastas, vegetables, meats, and sauces. Eating dry foods such as chips, breads, and other dehydrated foods produce a dehydrating effect on the body and should be avoided prior and during IV therapy.

Get some light exercise the day prior to and the day of the IV therapy. By stimulating blood flow, encouraging relaxation, and decreasing inflammation, regular exercise is one of most helpful things in both IV therapy, and health in general. Examples of light exercise include walking uphill or walking briskly, hiking, bicycle riding, elliptical machine, swimming laps in the pool, and joining an easy exercise class.

If you do not have accessible veins do not be discouraged. We have worked with many patients to improve the veins in their arm over time. The quickest way is lifting weights using the forearm and bicep muscles, so the weight is still tolerable for 3 sets of 8 repetitions.
